Quantenna Developing World’s First 10G Wi-Fi™ For Maximum MU-MIMO Performance

Groundbreaking 8x8 Architecture Poised to Set New Air Speed Record

FREMONT, CA. – April 14, 2014 -- Quantenna Communications, Inc., the leader in ultra-high-performance Wi-Fi, today announced that it is developing the world’s first 10G Wi-Fi™ chipset for a new generation of access points in the home, the enterprise and public spaces. With a novel architecture enabling MIMO configurations up to an unprecedented 8x8, speeds up to 10Gbps and universal support for MU-MIMO clients, Quantenna’s 10G Wi-Fi will deliver unparalleled performance,
range and stability.

10G Wi-Fi is the latest in a string of breakthroughs for the Silicon Valley Wi-Fi specialist. Quantenna was the first to deliver 4x4 chipsets for the 802.11n and 802.11ac Wi-Fi standards, and the first to support MU-MIMO, an ingenious technology for transmitting data to multiple devices at once. With those innovations and others such as adaptive beamforming and channel monitoring and optimization, Quantenna’s Wi-Fi reaches farther and transmits faster and more reliably than any other.

“Quantenna’s 8x8 architecture with adaptive beamforming demonstrates that the ‘massive MIMO’ promise of significantly higher throughput, robustness, and reduced interference can be realized in practice,” said Andrea Goldsmith, Stephen Harris Professor of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. “This architecture will also significantly enhance the capabilities of MU-MIMO, allowing it to support interference-free transmission to many more devices simultaneously. These technology advances will transform the landscape of applications and devices that Wi-Fi can support. As we move into an era of exponentially-growing video usage and the Internet of Things, the 8x8 architecture and MU-MIMO technologies will become essential in all high-performance Wi-Fi devices.”

Quantenna’s Wi-Fi solutions are designed for applications that require rock-solid, high-speed wireless performance. ASUS is using Quantenna’s 802.11ac chipset to build the world’s fastest consumer router. Texas Instruments is incorporating Quantenna technology into its reference platform for enterprise and pico small cell LTE base stations. STMicro is building Quantenna Wi-Fi into a wide range of System-on-Chip (SOC) offerings. Mimosa, an emerging market leader in providing next generation access, meanwhile, is using Quantenna Wi-Fi to deliver innovative outdoor wireless solutions.

Massive MIMO is the industry term for an advanced radio utilizing an array of many antennas to dramatically increase capacity through multi-user MIMO processing. “Massive MIMO is the future of wireless,” said Brian Hinman, CEO, Mimosa. “Quantenna’s 10G Wi-Fi will empower us to create products capable of enormous scale MU-MIMO, radically increasing the number of subscribers and the capacity of our customers’ networks. Our continued partnership with Quantenna will help establish Mimosa as an ongoing disruptive force in the outdoor wireless market.”

Major service providers including AT&T;, DIRECTV, Swisscom, Telefonica, France Telecom and Belgacom are using Quantenna’s Wi-Fi to meet the demands of their customers’ home networks. Over-the-top media services, IPTV and a proliferation of digital devices are straining Wi-Fi networks like never before. Quantenna-equipped access points can reach several mobile devices simultaneously, beam signals through concrete walls and stream multiple HD videos to every corner of the home.

“We’ve made 4x4 MU-MIMO a reality, but we can’t stop there,” said Dr. Sam Heidari, CEO, Quantenna Communications. “The demand for reliable, high-performance Wi-Fi will only increase. The number of Wi-Fi enabled devices in the home is growing faster than anyone predicted. Outdoor applications like carrier Wi-Fi, mobile offload and broadband delivery are quickly emerging. Wi-Fi has to keep up. That’s where 10G Wi-Fi comes in. Wi-Fi is no longer a convenience. People expect it to ‘just work’ even with demanding applications like HD video streaming. With Quantenna’s 10G Wi-Fi, they’ll always get the performance they expect—even as their expectations continue to rise.”

Quantenna plans to complement its 4x4 offerings by making the first 10G Wi-Fi chipsets available in 2015, including support for MIMO configurations up to 8x8.
